A meet, Todd Potts, Pep Rally, B meet and more

Happy Friday Morning Swimmers and Parents,

This email is going to be long, but without turbulence. Sit back, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!

Todd Potts - Wow

2nd Place!! And with just 22 swimmers! Congrats to all our Todd Potts participants. Everyone swam exceedingly well and there were so many best times that I will just give a special shout out to the greatest time drops per half (first half 10 & Under girls: Delaney Pfleghardt dropped 11 seconds; second half 13/14 girls: Maria Papas dropped 7 seconds) WOW!. SHRA also set 2 event records. Well done to Emma Redman for setting a new SHRA record and a new Todd Potts record (by 1/100th) of 1:11.99 in the 11/12 girls and to Liam Redman with a new SHRA and Todd Potts record of 1:03.90 in the 13/14 boys. Equally as awesome as the swimmers were our volunteers. With only 22 swimmers, we were stretched pretty thin. A huge thank you to everyone who stepped up

A meet at Rutherford

Please check the final entries for this Saturday. Our final entries look different from what we sent on Tuesday so please review carefully. Rutherford is located at 4609 Marley Road, Fairfax, VA 22031. Please be there at 8am. The SHRA caravan meets at the SHRA car park at 7:30 to pull out by 7:40. The caravan is not just for our nomadic few who need a ride (always happy to provide one) but also to gather and travel as a team – please join us.

Continuing on the theme of awesome volunteers, all our jobs for Saturday are filled! Thanks to all.

The list of cheer buddies is attached. Big kids, meet the little ones and little ones, don’t be too shy to introduce yourself to the big kids. You are there to cheer on each other.

Pep Rally

Tonight’s pep rally is on! The theme is Halloween at SHRA. Please swimmers wear your best costumes and parents, at tables, bring candy for trick or treat (your kid’s dentist will thank you later)

Monday night's B Meet

We are at home against Forest Hollow. Our warm ups start at 5 so please be at the pool by 4:45pm. There will be kickboard and assisted freestyle at the beginning and IMs at the end. Please mark your swimmer’s availability on swimtopia and also, if available, choose their events. We will print cards by noon on Monday.

Henry, our wonderful “vol” guy believes that when he duplicated the meet on swimtopia, he deleted the original and all the job signups. Please sign up for a job on Monday night even if you did so previously as those are no longer recorded.

Relay Carnival next Wednesday July 12th at SHRA

Next Wednesday, all 6 teams in Division 8 will gather at SHRA and each age group will race all the other teams in a Medley Relay and in an all freestyle relay. This is a fun, busy and quick night (90 minutes or so without thunder). Anything can happen on this night and we of course want to put our best teams forward. Please mark your swimmer’s availability in Swimtopia if you haven’t already.

Speaking of marking availability (AKA, the inner workings of how we pick swimmers and events)

Every Tuesday after practice Dave and Jamie meet with a ladder of our best times and the opposing team’s best times and a list of who is unavailable to swim, the goal being, of course, to score more points. When we are then told a swimmer can’t swim, we don’t sub in the next available swimmer on the ladder. We look at that entire age group again as a blank slate as different swimmers have different strengths. This week we had to redo an age group multiple times. Please do mark your swimmer’s availability.

Shark Teeth

So many best times!!!! Please make sure you pick up your super stylish shark teeth from Jamie.

That’s all for now. See you all on deck!
